5/9/2023 0 Comments Final fantasy xvi agniHer gameplay looks like an evolution of FF gameplay from before, and the sum of it's parts feels closer to what I imagined the next Final Fantasy game would look like. I can at least discern some humanity out of her and her emotional state, even if I don't agree with some of the dialogue's direction.Įven if we're in the usual fantasy setting, her perspective gives it a modern spin. Two trailers in and I can't even get a read on Clive? Who is he? What kind of character is he? What is his personality? While the dialogue in Forspoken is a topic of massive debate, I have a much better hook into who Frey is as a person. Immediately this lights up my interest knowing we're entering a fantasy world with this new perspective. We're playing as a young black woman from the modern day in this heavily fantasy setting, something we've never seen before from a major AAA game/developer, let alone isekai. All of the magic combat and systems look to blend nicely with this mobility, almost like a successor to something like Infamous but with fantasy/magic bent. The movement looks like a natural evolution of what we had. Off the bat, her nimble traversal seems to pick up where XV left off with even more acrobatic versatility to the mix. This is where Forspoken checks a lot of those boxes for me. ![]() Something always felt fresh, vibrant and inviting. With each FF title, it looked to further blend a fantasy world with a modern take to some measure. The production values and visuals look stunning for sure, but with each trailer I just can't get that emotional "charge" that I got from the first impressions with X/XII/XIII/XV. Even the protagonist, Clive, looks like a more generic Noctis to me. At a glance, I would have never guessed it was the next FF without the title card appearing at the end. The dour look and medieval setting immediately sees it blend in with similar games of the genre. Since the reveal of XVI, I've felt largely disinterested in the setting and tone of the game. This of course is my own opinion in how I feel about FF in general, but I was curious if anyone shared the same view. So now, before I'm pelted and roasted, hear me out. CAN WE PLEASE NOT MAKE THIS A DIALOGUE DISCUSSION.
